How to Avoid Damaging RO Membranes During Sanitization?
RO membranes are delicate—sanitization requires care to avoid permanent damage. First, check membrane type: thin-film composite (TFC) membranes are sensitive to chlorine, so use hydrogen peroxide or citric acid instead, or neutralize chlorine with sodium bisulfite after cleaning. Cellulose acetate (CA) membranes tolerate chlorine but require thorough rinsing.
Never use high-concentration sanitizers (e.g., 10% hydrogen peroxide) or abrasive tools—they scratch or degrade the membrane surface. Soak membranes for the recommended time (30–60 minutes) and rinse with copious amounts of water to remove all residue. Handle membranes gently, avoiding bending or touching the active surface. By following membrane-specific guidelines, you’ll sanitize effectively without compromising the system’s core component. Click here to know more.
